    Bending of acrylic

PyraSied has several ovens and heaters for bending acrylic and other plastics. The maximum range of our ovens is 3 meters. The technology depends on the radius and thickness of the material. We bend our plastics for business customers both in series and for one-offs.

    Bending quality of PyraSied

For oven bending, we use high-quality moulds that we produce in-house. We have several ovens in our fabrication hall with which we can deform plastics such as acrylic (Plexiglas), polycarbonate and PETG in one-axis and two-axis. We specialize in bending acrylic for, for example, counter and reception fronts, special cabinets and other furniture. Examples of biaxial deformations are, for example, spiral staircase panels.

It is possible to supply a mould yourself, but we can also make a mould. The mould costs are calculated separately. After use, the mould becomes the property of the customer. The mould is supplied with the curved end product. This is useful for the future because a mould can be used more often.

The maximum size that we can bend single-axis and two-axis are 2800 mm wide x 1800 mm deep x 800 mm high. In addition to oven bending, it is also possible to bend acrylic with a line bending or cold bending technique. We can offer both techniques. With line bending, an acrylic sheet is locally heated above a straight filament. In this way, curves with a small radius are made. Acrylic can also be bent without any, so cold bending. This is possible up to a radius of 320 times the material thickness. An acrylic sheet of 5 mm can, therefore, be bent to a radius of 5 x 320 = 1600 mm. Polycarbonate can be bent up to 100x the material thickness. Polycarbonate is much stronger than acrylic.

    Three-axes curves

Plastics such as acrylic and PETG can also be bent in three axes, but we do not do this ourselves. Another name for three-axis bending is vacuum forming or thermos forming. We can get you in touch with fabricators who can perform this service.

    Frequently Asked Questions
What information do you need to prepare a quote?

PyraSied provides fabrications for all professional customers who use our materials in their idea or project. It is possible to request a personal quote through our sales department (sales@pyrasied.nl). To prepare a suitable offer, we need the following information:

    • The chosen material and the required thickness
    • Desired edge-finishing
    • Dimensions and amount
    • A digital drawing or example with shapes and sizes (.dwg, .dxf, .ai)

Our sales staff will then proceed with the request. To speed up the process, we would like to receive what the wishes are as extensively as possible. Our sales department usually answers all incoming requests within 48 hours. Every customer receives a personal quote.

How long does it take to receive a quote?

Our sales department usually answers within 48 hours on workdays.

Can you vacuum form acrylic and other plastics?

Vacuum forming is a widely used and efficient way of forming acrylics in the desired shape. The plastic is heated up, becomes deformable and is then drawn to the mould with vacuum and/or pressure.  This is a special field of fabrication.

PyraSied cannot carry out vacuum forming, however, we are having multiple contacts who can do this. We would be happy to get you into contact with the suitable vacuum former for your demand. Please contact us about this.

What is the edge finishing of curved plastic sheets?

We make a customized mould in advance that matches the desired end product. After bending it is possible that there are “ears” on the material, we always saw this afterwards.

How long does it take before my acrylic can be bent?

The delivery time of our fabrications is on request. The delivery time depends on the crowds. Usually, the delivery time for bending acrylic is 1 to 2 workweeks.
Contact our sales department via sales@pyrasied.nl for the exact delivery time.

I would like to bend your material myself. Do you have tips for me?

We recommend that you always have your material bent by someone who has experience with this. PyraSied specializes in bending acrylic and other plastics, we are happy to help you with your project.

Would you still like to get started yourself? Then we have a number of tips.

    • When bending, take into account the properties of the specific material.
    • To heat up the material, you can choose an oven (the entire surface) or a heater (a specific part of the surface), but you also have the option to heat the material with a hair dryer.
    • It is important to heat the material gradually and let it cool down again.
    • The sheet must remain in the correct shape until it is completely cool and hard again.
