    • FAQ

Greencast® satin acrylic is cast acrylic that is made from 100% recycled pre-and post-consumer acrylic with all the excellent characteristics of standard cast acrylic with a satin surface. This is a clear acrylic sheet with a satin, soft and pleasant surface structure. Satin acrylic does not adhere to dirt and is very easy to maintain, it will remain beautiful for years. Greencast® acrylic is UV stable and weather resistant and can therefore be used both indoors and outdoors. The satin sheets are very pure and beautiful in combination with light. Acrylic catches the light, guides the light, and plays with the light. Due to the satin surface, you get a nice diffuse effect of the light, you can still see a contour through the sheet. This plastic is particularly durable due to its very long colorfastness and lifespan and can be fully recycled after use into a new Greencast® sheet. It is a circular material. Greencast® is the most sustainable and especially green choice in the acrylic world.

    Stock Greencast® satin recycled acrylic

Greencast® Satin with a two-sided satin surface is standard available in thicknesses from 3 up to 10mm. The maximum sheet size depends on the chosen thickness. Greencast® satin can be produced in other thicknesses with a minimum order quantity. Please contact our sales department for more information. If you are looking for an acrylic sheet with a satin surface on one side, you can order this material to size here.

    Application possibilities

Greencast® is a cast acrylic with all the good characteristics of cast PMMA. This means that recycled acrylic can be used for the same applications as virgin (not recycled) acrylic. The material is very suitable for projects where sustainability is very important. Greencast® Satin acrylic is widely used but is mainly used in interior construction, stand and decor construction, shop design, lighting, signing and display construction. This material is ideal for interior glazing. This material is less suitable for very demanding optical applications such as light guide plates. For this, we recommend using standard acrylic. Do you want to be inspired by all the possibilities with acrylic? Please check our reference projects for various examples of applications with acrylic.

    Fabrication possibilities

Greencast® acrylic is very easy to fabricate. The fabrication possibilities are cutting, milling, laser-cutting, bonding, drilling, faceting, polishing, sanding and printing. Unfortunately, Greencast® cannot be bent by draping. Greencast® turns slightly yellow on the ends as soon as you bend it in an oven. However, line bending or tempering is no problem at all. Do you want more information about the fabrication possibilities of our plastics? You can read more about our fabrication services here. In our fabrication page, you will find all the services that we offer and you can request a quote. We deliver from our excellently equipped workshop – where high-tech machinery and traditional craftsmanship ensure optimum results, completely customized according to drawing or design.

    Frequently Asked Questions
    How is acrylic recycled?

PyraSied has committed itself for more than three years to taking back acrylic for recycling. The remains and the used acrylic are collected in a large bin and then sent to the recycling plant. The depolymerization process starts there.
Molecular chains are cracked by the heating process. The PMMA (acrylic) residues are hereby returned to a liquid state.
The next step is distillation. The impurities are separated, whereby the original monomer is obtained. After this R-MMA remains: Recycled Methyl Methacrylate monomer. This is used to make new recycled acrylic sheets.
The result: fully recycled acrylic sheets made from 100% post-and pre-consumer acrylic. We call this material Greencast®.
A dye is added to the coloured sheets. This gives the sheet a different colour. No colourant is added to clear sheets.

Why isn’t Greencast® cheaper than normal cast acrylic?

Often, the quality of recycled material is less than the original. This is not the case with acrylic. The quality is the same as the quality of normal cast acrylic. In addition, the cost price of Greencast® is the same as the "virgin" variant. The process to produce Greencast® and standard cast acrylic is the same, but the raw material is different. That is why we offer Greencast® for the exact same price.

How do we know for sure that Greencast® is really made from recycled acrylic?

We are regularly asked if Greencast® is really "recycled" and that it is not a fake. We can prove that this is really not the case. Our supplier, Madreperla, is an ISO certified company. This means that the material flow is recorded in detail for the purpose of, among other things, quality controls. In addition, Madreperla has enough R-MMA in stock to make Greencast®. Madreperla, therefore, has no reason to make Greencast® from "virgin" PMMA.

Is there a difference between virgin / normal cast acrylic and recycled acrylic?

No, the properties are completely the same. Greencast® is less suitable for very demanding applications such as light guide plates. Furthermore, the material is suitable for the same applications.

Is it possible to make Greencast® sheets in other colours?

Yes! We even have more than 17 colours standard in stock in various thicknesses. Greencast® can also be produced in other colours, thicknesses and types such as metallic, translucent or satin. A minimum order quantity applies for this. Ask our Sales & Support department (sales@pyrasied.nl) for more information.

Can you easily fabricate Greencast® acrylic?

Acrylic is very easy to fabricate. Fabrication possibilities: cutting, milling, laser-cutting, bonding, drilling, faceting, polishing, sanding and printing. Unfortunately, Greencast® cannot be bent by draping. Clear Greencast® turns slightly yellow on the ends as soon as you bend it in an oven. However, line bending or tempering is no problem at all.

    Is acrylic easy to maintain?

Acrylic is very easy to maintain with the use of a soft microfiber cloth and a mild household cleaner. The use of brushes, sponges and abrasive cleaning agents is not recommended, as this can cause tiny scratches. Accumulation of these types of scratches ultimately gives a dull result. However, this can be remedied by polishing the scratched surface. It is also possible to fill in light scratches with our VuPlex plastic cleaner, for example. For more information, see our cleaning instructions.
