The extruded transparent acrylic sheets from PyraSied are in stock in various thicknesses (1.5mm – 20mm) and surface structures. Extruded acrylic is characterized by the hardly any thickness tolerance due to the production process. In addition, XT acrylic sheets are also relatively cheaper than cast acrylic (GS) sheets. PyraSied is a true acrylic specialist with the most extensive stock of acrylic sheets, tubes and rods in Europe. Transparent extruded acrylic can be ordered in different variants such as clear, anti-reflex (anti-glare), one-sided scratch-resistant and impact-resistant.

Acrylic is also known as Plexiglas and is a very beautiful material with many possibilities. That is why we have many different variants standard in stock. What is so special about ‘normal’ clear acrylic? The beauty is precisely in that clarity because it is much clearer than glass. Acrylic has a very high light transmission of 92%, it is an optically pure material. This purity is always reflected in the applications. In addition, acrylic is 25 times stronger than glass and is also easier to fabricate. This material is beautiful in combination with (natural) light, it catches the light, guides the light and plays with the light. In short, light makes acrylic come alive. This unique plastic is particularly durable, as it has a very long colorfastness and lifespan. When used properly, acrylic will remain beautiful for many years!

    Environmentally friendly acrylic

Ecocrylic® acrylic is an extruded material made of at least 70% recycled pre-and post-consumer acrylic. It has the same excellent properties as standard extruded acrylic. It is also just as clear and indistinguishable from standard extruded acrylic. Ecocrylic® is currently only in stock in clear. An alternative to Ecocrylic® is Greencast® made from 100% recycled cast acrylic. Greencast® is in stock in clearblackwhitesatinopaltransparent colourstranslucent coloursmetallic and mother-of-pearl. A more sustainable and cheaper alternative without compromising on quality.

When do you choose extruded (XT) acrylic?

The abbreviation ‘XT’ is known in the plastics industry and stands for ‘extruded’. This refers to the production method of this type of acrylic. The advantages of extruded acrylic sheets is that it hardly has a thickness tolerance. This means that the sheet always has the thickness that you order. For applications where the material is in a profile or a flat surface is required, we recommend using extruded acrylic. Because XT acrylic is produced in large quantities, extruded acrylic sheets are relatively slightly cheaper than cast acrylic sheets. Do you want more choices of thicknesses, colours, and surfaces? Then you can choose cast acrylic.

    Stock transparent extruded acrylic sheets

XT acrylic sheets are standard in stock in thicknesses varying from 1,5mm up to 20mm thick. The acrylic can be ordered cut-to-size via our webshop. Are you looking for thicker acrylic? Then you can choose acrylic block, this is cast acrylic up to a thickness of 90mm. Are you looking for acrylic that is thinner than 1mm? Then you can choose Hesaglas® precision acrylic.

    Application possibilities

Clear acrylic is often used as front windows, temporary glazing and interior glazing, showcases, shield sheets, furniture, wall presentations, or as decorative sheet material. See our reference projects for examples of applications with our material.

    Fabrication possibilities

Acrylic is very easy to fabricate. The possible fabrications are cuttingmillinglaser-cuttingoven bendingbondingdrillingfacetingpolishingsanding and printing. When bending XT acrylic, pay attention to the direction of extrusion. XT acrylic can be curved best perpendicular to the extrusion direction. The direction of extrusion is parallel to the long side. These fabrications can be performed by PyraSied if desired. We deliver from our excellently equipped workshop – where high-tech machinery and traditional craftsmanship ensure optimum results, completely tailored to your drawing or design. You can find more information about our fabrication services on our website. Here you can request a quotation.

    Frequently Asked Questions
When do I choose for Transparent acrylic sheets XT?

You choose Transparent acrylic sheets XT if you are looking for material with hardly any thickness tolerance. The thickness tolerance means a difference in the thickness within a sheet.

With cast acrylic, the standard for A-quality is +/- 0.4mm + 10% the nominal thickness. For example, a 10mm sheet runs from 8.6mm to 11.4mm within one sheet!

XT acrylic has hardly any thickness tolerance and this means that you always get the thickness you ordered. For applications in a profile, it is recommended to use XT acrylic.

What is the difference between cast acrylic and extruded acrylic?

PyraSied stocks acrylic in cast (GS) and extruded (XT) acrylic. The difference between the two is in the production process. Cast acrylic is produced per sheet and can, therefore, be easily produced in small quantities. This offers a lot of flexibility. That is why we have cast acrylic in stock in various thicknesses, colours, surface structures and design variants.

Extruded acrylic (short for this is XT) is made with a fully continuous extrusion process. The liquid acrylic flows out of the reactor and is brought to the desired thickness by means of a rolling process. XT acrylic is produced in larger volumes. This makes a significant difference in the price and is, therefore, cheaper than GS. The fully continuous extrusion process gives you less flexibility.

The biggest advantage of XT is that it hardly has a thickness tolerance. This ensures that the sheet always has the exact thickness you ordered. For applications where the material is in a profile or a flat surface is required, we always recommend the use of extruded acrylic.

What is the difference between Plexiglas and acrylic?

Plexiglas is the brand name of acrylic. Acrylic is also known as Plexiglass, PMMA or Perspex®. It is all the exact same material.

What is the difference between acrylic and glass?

Acrylic has a very high light transmission and this is much higher than glass with 92%. In addition, it is 25 times stronger than glass and only half as heavy. Acrylic is also easy to fabricate and it will not shatter, which glass does. It is also very durable, it is resistant to all kinds of weather conditions and usually light and UV resistant.

An advantage of glass over acrylic is the scratch resistance. The acrylic surface is softer and therefore scratches faster. With the right care, this can be minimized/repaired, while a scratch in glass can no longer be removed.

When do you choose for acrylic and when do you choose for polycarbonate?

Acrylic is optically purer than polycarbonate. Polycarbonate, on the other hand, is much more impact-resistant than acrylic, but yellows faster.

    Can you fabricate acrylic?

Yes, acrylic is very easy to fabricate. The possible fabrications are cutting, milling, laser-cutting, oven bending, bonding, drilling, faceting, polishing, sanding and printing.

    Is acrylic easy to maintain?

Acrylic is very easy to maintain using a soft microfiber cloth and a mild household cleaner such as VuPlex or Burnus. The use of brushes, sponges and abrasive cleaning products is not recommended, as this can cause minuscule scratches. Accumulation of this type of scratches ultimately gives a dull result. However, this can be remedied by polishing the scratched surface. It is also possible to fill in light scratches with, for example, our VuPlex plastic cleaner. See our cleaning instructions (under downloads) for more information.
