The Primo® XT spy mirror is a special silver mirror with a thin mirror coating on one side of a clear, extruded acrylic sheet. The mirror side has a light transmission of 15%. The low light transmission allows some visibility through the sheet, making this material often used for observations, art installations, smart mirrors, scientific applications, and fixtures. When used as an observation mirror or smart mirror, it must be darker on the observation side of the mirror than on the side to be observed, otherwise, you will see through the mirror. The spy mirror sheets are not suitable for outdoor applications or in wet environments. The spy mirror is also known as spyglass, police mirror, magic mirror, confrontation mirror, and/or observation mirror.
PyraSied has the Primo® XT Spy Mirror in stock in 3mm thick silver. The spy mirror can be ordered cut-to-size with a maximum sheet size of 2440x1220mm. The spy mirror comes with clean cuts. PyraSied also has a mirror made of acrylic and polycarbonate. Polycarbonate mirrors are more impact resistant than acrylic mirrors.
Installation
Mirror acrylic is somewhat flexible and must be attached to a flat surface for good results. This in connection with the reflection. If this is not done properly, reflection errors will occur (laughing mirror effect). In addition, the larger the surface of the mirror sheet, the greater the chance of reflection errors.
Protective film
The spy mirror has a protective film on both sides. There is a reflective film on one side of the sheet, you should not try to remove this “foil”! The side of the reflective film can be recognized by direct contact between pen and mirror. Be careful when removing the protective film on this side. So make sure that the mirror film is never removed from the sheet because then it is no longer a spy mirror. The applied mirror layer is very fragile. For example, no (double-sided) tape can be glued to it, not even temporarily. Removing the tape will damage the mirror layer. Any sealant or tape used should not be aggressive. See the FAQ for more information.
Common applications are Spy mirror, magic mirror (infinite mirror, smart mirror), glazing, art pieces, protection of decors and art pieces.
Sawing (circle- or table saw/jigsaw), milling, laser-cutting, bonding, and drilling. For more information about fabricating acrylics, please go to our fabrication page.

No. The spy-mirror is absolutely not suitable for outside use or humid conditions, because the foil is not weather proof. The two-way mirror can be used for outdoor applications.
15%
Yes, however these sheets are not on stock. Ask our sales department for more information: sales@pyrasied.nl.
A spy mirror has a lower light transmission (15%) than two-way mirrors (+21%). The two-way mirrors are on stock in various colours and thicknesses, the spy mirror is only on stock in silver in 3mm.
The mirrors can be cleaned with a soft non-woven cloth. You can use water with some detergent, household vinegar or cleaning-alcohol. PyraSied recommends to use Burnus antistatic cleaner or VuPlex. VuPlex gives a protective layer and removes visually small scratches. PyraSied can supply these multifunctional cleaners. You should never use Glassex, strong solvents, schotch-brite and other abrasive products.
When the material has scratches, you can remove those by sanding the front side of the material with a grain 1200 (depending on the deepness of the scratch) followed by polishing the material with a soft cotton and a polishing agent.
It is possible to attach the mirror with mirror holders, spacers or with sealant on a wall. (you can only do this once! When removing the mirror, the mirror film will be damaged). You should use an acid-free silicone sealant when attaching the mirror sheets to walls or other substrates. As the mirror sheets do expand and contract with temperature, the minimum thickness of the sealant layer is 2 mm behind the sheets. You can also use natural foam tape with a minimum thickness of 2mm.
You can not use regular tape or anything acidic, even temporary.
